Artifact: ITEC 7400 EL Project
Reflection:
The lesson plan for the Engaged Learning Project I created facilitates the learning process for students to create their own myths and legends reflective of those in Spanish and Latin cultures. This project was created for a Spanish III Level class at Dawson County High School. In order to create this lesson plan and incorporate it into the curriculum, many hours of research were involved to maximize planning for student learning.
By creating a detailed lesson plans, incorporating components such as learner descriptions, Georgia Performance Standards assessed, ISTE Standards, essential questions, learner outcomes and various levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy, I effectively modeled and facilitated how to effectively use research-based practices in instructional design. If another teacher wanted to use the lesson plan, it is written in a professional and comprehensive manner that would serve as a how-to guide to carry out this project with the appropriate level students.
After students completed this lesson, I learned that I needed to streamline this lesson. Students’ feedback revealed that they loved selecting which myths and legends to read and moving at their own pace. However, they preferred for it to be broken down into segments in ordered to absorb more of the information available. Going forward, I will conduct grammatical lessons separately and quiz students on these specific concepts to assess content mastery in addition to the myth or legend that the students create.
The work that went into this lesson greatly impacted the Spanish Department. We are in the middle of transitioning to a blended learning environment and incorporating more of a student-led learning environment. Now we have a useful and effective lesson to implement into our upper level curriculum. I was also able to teach my peers about some of the Web 2.0 Tools utilized and websites utilized so they can be incorporated into the curriculum as well in different ways. The impact of this artifact can be assessed in the department’s adoption of this format of the unit to be method of delivery going forward. The impact on student learning can be assessed by the incorporation of an online curriculum in this unit. The delivery and follow through and completely in an online platform. Impact can further be assessed by the positive feedback of students regarding the technology use and incorporation in this unit.
